Hearing Awareness week launch night - 25 Aug

The Deafness Forum's Hearing Awareness Week theme for 2008 is “One in Six” which serves as a reminder that 3.55 Million Australians have some form of hearing impairment.

The Deafness Council of NSW is launching this year's Hearing Awareness Week in Sydney with a celebration held at the home of Australian Hearing in Chatswood.

Highlights of this celebration include special guest, Mr. Alex Varley, CEO of Media Access Australia, to present on:

  • Captioning and Accessible Media for hearing impaired and deaf people
  • Public submission to the Media Access Review
  • Recent developments in Cinema Captioning
  • The Australian Communication and Media Access Review.

Getting to the Home of Australian Hearing:

  • By car: Parking is available in the grounds of Australian Hearing
  • By train (& taxi): to Chatswood Station, alight on west side and cross Railway Street, turn left to walk up Victoria Avenue to get a taxi
  • By bus: Catch 545 bus from Railway Street, Chatswood Station & alight at Fullers Road near Greville Street pedestrian crossing & cross it & walk down Greville Street (north) on left side 400 metres to Australian Hearing & follow path to reception area

FREE Community hearing screenings

If you want to test your hearing, there will be free hearing tests held at the Kogarah School of Arts - but you will need to book ahead to ensure you get a spot.
